Antonin Dvorak Prize Awarded to Josef Suk
The first recipient of the newly established Antonin Dvorak Prize is the famous concert violinist Josef SUK for his outstanding contribution to promoting Czech music at home and abroad.
Maestro Suk celebrated recently his 80th birthday. He is the great-grandson of Antonin Dvorak and the grandson of composer Josef Suk.
In 1952 Maestro Suk founded his own Suk Trio together with pianist Jiri Hubicka and cellist Alexander Vectomov. Between 1961-1990 he gave concerts in most European countries, and also in the United States and Canada. He received the French Grand Prix du Disque six times for his outstanding recordings. He is the President of the Artistic Council of the International Music Festival Prague Spring.
