Our Foundation for Construction of Pensions for the Seniors with Complex Services (Nadace pro výstavbu pensionů pro seniory s komplexními službami) considers this establishment to be a unique example of cooperation between the state, the town and private subjects in financing such an establishment.

The total cost of construction was 25 mil. CZK, of which 19.6 was contributed by the state, 1.4 mil CZK by the town and 4 mil. CZK was donated by the Czech/Canadian Mrs. Libuše Nystrom.

The establishment has 44 units with 80 beds. The cost of accommodation for one person came on average to 312 500 CZK. The pension has six one bedroom units, eight one-bed and thirty two-bed bachelor units. All units have a kitchenette, storage space, bathroom combined with WC, telephone socket and common TV antenna. The clients have access to the common social club room with TV and video, and to laundry room. In-house services available are: pedicure, rehabilitation and physiotherapy. The city organizes other services, namely private nursing care, cleaning, shopping, miscellaneous errands, delivery of meals, laundry washing and ironing.

Approximate monthly costs are: one-bedroom unit 1 830 CZK, one-bed bachelor unit 1150 CZK, two-bed bachelor unit 1 320 CZK. The clients pay separately water and electricity. Each unit has its own water and electricity meters.

The mayor of the town informed that the operating cost of the pension is covered from the town budget and therefore local people have priority in admission. The pension registers at present thirty persons on a waiting list. The applicant must be a recipient of an old age or disability pension and he must not be dependent on a complex health care.

The interest in constructing similar establishments has been growing recently. It is very important to find towns, whose mayors understand the importance of these initiatives both for the ageing population in the whole country and for employment opportunities of the local citizens.
