Would you like to learn or improve the Czech language and on top of that become familiar with the Czech culture in the most beautiful town of the Czech republic? Then it is you for whom we are preparing in Prague a non-traditional summer course of the Czech language and Czech culture.

Charles University in Prague, the Institute of Preparatory Studies is organizing from July 30 to August 24, 2012 in its Study Centre at Albertov the 11th annual non-traditional and non-tourist course of the Czech language for foreigners interested in it, called Czech Language and Czech Culture, which is held under the auspices of the Minister of Culture of the Czech Republic and the Capital City of Prague.

The philosophy of the course is to present the Czech culture to our students differently from the way they would get to know it as tourists, primarily through meetings with prominent personalities of the Czech cultural and social life.

Last year among our guests was for example Eva Jiřičná, an architect, Olga Špátová, a film director, Yvonne Přenosilová, a singer, Ivan Kraus, a writer and others. In the past years we had the honour to welcome for example Zdeněk Svěrák, an actor and script writer, Jiří Menzel, a film director, Jarek Nohavica, a folk singer, Kateřina Neumannová, a skier and many others.

The programme consists of a five-hour block of intensive tuition of the Czech language throughout the week from Monday to Friday.

For the afternoons and evenings there has been prepared a rich cultural programme – tours around important places and buildings, personal meetings with interesting personalities and other activities.

Mondays are devoted to literature and theatre, Tuesdays will be filled with Czech music and visual arts, every Wednesday we are going to watch Czech films and meet their makers, on Thursdays´ afternoons we will be wandering around Prague and its most beautiful secluded places. Fridays will be reserved for students´ own activities. At the weekends on the trips we will visit some interesting places of the Czech Republic.

All cultural activities are included in the price of the course and there will always be an interpreter to English available during all events.

We will gladly welcome everyone who is willing not only to study the Czech language but also become acquainted with the Czech culture.
