ELLA-CS has introduced a breakthrough patent

The stent is formed of a biodegradable polymer called poly-dioxanon. The uniqueness of this material is characterized by its ability to dissolve and absorb into esophageal tissue within 2 to 3 months after procedure. A minimally invasive technique is used to implant this device. The stent is loaded inside a lowprofile introducer and safely released, once precisely positioned. After releasing, the biodegradable esophageal stent selfexpands and keeps the pre-formed diameter of 25mm. The stent could be of some help in cases of brachytherapy used to treat adjacent organs close to esophagus, when the esophageal tissue might be stenosed or damaged by collateral irradiation. Company’s team keeps focusing its research and development of ELLA’s next generation biodegradable stent by targeting also other parts of gastrointestinal tract, e.g. billiary ducts and colon.
