About the journal Czech Dialogue

The printed version of the Czech Dialogue was first published in 1990 , right after the Velvet Revolution. The idea came from the independent journalist Eva Strizovska who has been its editor-in-chief from the beginning. Its purpose was to liquidate the barriers established by the previous regime between the Czechs at home and those who left the country or who had been driven out against their will. Leaving the country was considered a crime and treason by the regime. Communication between families and friends was disallowed and scrutinized and became very difficult, if not impossible.

The Czech Dialogue attempted to re-establish communication between the Czechs at home and those abroad and inform about changes in the Czech Republic. It continues to do so at the present time. In addition it also contains articles about culture and history, interviews with interesting persons as well as readers’ opinions, views and contributions. The journal became very popular because of its originality and independent views. It is clear that even now people at home are not sufficiently informed about how the Czechs abroad live and how they contribute to the world.

After 21 years in printed form, the journal is published since 2012 on the web. Thus it can exchange opinions and news much quicker among all the countries where the Czechs or their descendants live- e.g. USA, Canada, Australia, most of European states, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Central America, New Zealand, JAR, etc.

Even in its new form the Czech Dialogue publishes parts of its articles in English. If you want to broaden your views about many interesting topics, read the Czech Dialog
